Staff Adviser of the University of Calabar, UNICAL Chapter of Nigerian Union of Campus Journalists, NUCJ, Mr. Effiong Eyo has described the resurrection of the union’s Monthly Newspaper “Campus Lens” as one stride worthy of accolades.
He gave this commendation at the maiden NUCJ UCC Final Year Send-Forth 2014/Launch of the Campus Lens Monthly Newspaper held yesterday at the Judiciary Chamber of the Students’ Union Annex, UNICAL.
Mr. Eyo represented by Mr. Ikpeme Erete, Information/Public Relations Unit, Vice Chancellor’s Office, revealed that he knows the perils the union has been passing through even before the inception of the present administration but he also pledged to support the union in any way that is within his capacity.
Also Speaking, The Students’ Union Government President, SUG of UNICAL, Comrade Bassey Eka expressed happiness with the Union for re-launching the monthly ‘Campus Lens’ newspaper and said it was good progress made by the union in boosting it objective.
“I commend your effort amidst the turbulent times; but I must say you are doing well in keeping the university community and its environs well informed”.
Earlier, the NUCJ UCC Chapter President, Comrade Ekemini Raymond John while delivering his welcome address said he is delighted that this day has come and he admired the guests for deeming it fit to come celebrate with them.
The Campus Lens Newspaper was last published by the administration of Comrade Gah Felix during the 2008/2009 session.
As part of yesterday’s event, the Union sent forth nine of its erudite pen pushing brothers as a mark of honor. Those honored include: Comrade Ogar Emmanuel, Emeritus President of the Union, Comrade Sam Ibok, Comrade Agare Israel CEO, Inside Campus Africa Magazine.
Comrade Tobby Godwin, Emeritus Secretary General of the Union, Comrade Clement Essien Emeritus Financial Secretary of the Union, Comrade Asari Samuel Akan, Comrade Ibibi Peter Banbeshie, Comrade Ademuyiwa Temitayo and Comrade Eca Emmanuel Ahanonu the erstwhile President of the Union.
