Akampa Seal Peace Deal Between Warring Communities As Committe Submit Report

The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Area, Barr. Joseph Itotup has advised warring communities of Ekpri Iko in Akampa and Agoi Abami in Yakurr to sheath their swords and embrace peace and dialogue to provide a conducive environment for development of the two Local Government Areas.

The Chairman gave this admonition at the Local Government Council hall during the final submission of the peace committee report set-up to resolve the crises between the two communities.

The committee which was headed by Ntufam Paul Ogar, Clan Head of Akamkpa Urban was commended for the peaceful resolution of the crises and being impartial in its report, urging both communities to abide by the recommendations of the committee.

While presenting the twenty page report, the Chairman of the Peace Committee, Ntufam Paul Ogar disclosed that during the committee’s sitting, a time frame was allocated on received written memoranda and oral submissions from members of the public, Elders and chiefs of both communities saying the cooperation and support given to the committee in the course of its assignment was unprecedented.

Ntufam Oga thanked the Akamkpa Local Government Council for finding them worthy to serve in bringing peace to the warring communities and urged the communities to abide by the final report which was based on equity, fair play and justice for the overall development of the area.

Receiving copies of the report, representatives of both communities of Ekpri Iko and Agoi Ibami lauded the committee for the timely resolution of the crises and for being impartial during their sittings and pledged to abide by the recommendations of the committee.
