Nigeria’s Under 17 National football team, the Golden Eaglets secured a convincing 6-1 victory in another test game in Calabar yesterday. This time their opponents were the Cross River State selected side.

It was the 15th game of the Nigeria U-17 team under coach Emmanuel Amuneke.

Hero of the day was Suleiman Abdullahi who bagged a hat-trick before the half-time whistle.

He got his first goal in the 9th minute from a great free-kick. Few minutes later Victor Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s lead, but Cross River State team didn’t give up and scored a contact goal from the penalty spot in the 16th minute.

Abdullahi however rose up to the challenge again in the 35th minute also from the spot, while in stoppage time he managed to bag another one and Eaglets were leading 4-1 at half-time.

During the break both teams made many changes and new faces were brought on the pitch. Despite the changes, the Eaglets still had the advantage in the second part of the game and were able to score 2 more goals.

Few minutes after the second half resumed, the Eaglets were given another penalty after Chinedu Madueke was brought down in the box.

Nwakali stepped up and netted from the spot. In the final minutes, Jack Ipalibo settled the result after a wonderful combination with Ebije Yahaya.
