Majority of the people in Cross River State are poor and anyone who seeks their mandate to govern the state must be disciplined and committed towards creating wealth that will improve their welfare.
Mr. Tanko Ashang, a PDP governorship aspirant in Cross River State who stated this in an interview with CrossRiverWatch said Senator Liyel Imoke and his predecessor, Mr Donald Duke have done much for the state by laying the foundation for its development and what is required now is someone with the discipline and determination to create wealth for the people without depending on oil revenue. “The ceding of our oil wells though painful, is a great blessing because a great leader can transform the state with the resources that abound and create wealth to benefit the people”.
Tanko Ashang who said he is in the race for the number one position of the state not just because it has been zoned to the north but because he believes he has the discipline, vision and commitment to take the state to the next level. “I have been poor and felt the pain of poverty right in my shoulder and neck but today I have driven myself to a point where I know anybody can overcome the scourge of poverty and here I am ready to offer my wealth of experience to the people and I assure you I will not disappoint them”.
The Governorship Aspirant from Obanlikwu said he is a successful legal practitioner and for the past twenty years has been arguing cases in courts across the country and, “As a legal adviser in strategic government agencies, I have participated in developing the transformation agenda of the present administration, I have a strong socio political background, integrity and humility that will catapult my people to the next level”.
Mr Ashang said he is being strategic in his consultation which he has carried out extensively across the state and the results have been encouraging. “When people listen to me and see my vision, they buy into it effortlessly because they can see clearly where I intend to take the state and they know I mean well so when the ban on political activities is lifted and the timetable is released I shall extend my consultation to every nook and cranny of the state”
