The Chairman of Boki Local Government Council, Hon Chief Abubakar Ewah on Tuesday defied rain to distribute over six hundred twin-seater desks to needy Primary Schools in Boki 11 State Constituency.
Performing the ceremony in Ebam Borum, in the Oku/Njua/Borum Council Ward, the Chairman said the distribution was aimed at providing a more conducive learning environment for the pupils. He said having gone round the Council Area since assumption of office he identified shortage of school desks as one of the challenges impeding effective teaching and learning in the primary schools. “The distribution of these desks therefore is the beginning of a process aimed at creating a more learner-friendly environment for kids in our public schools”, the Chairman said.
Reacting, the Executive Secretary of Boki local Government Education Authority, Mr Nandi Peter Bette thanked the Council Chairman for the timely intervention, saying the issue of inadequate seats was a recurring problem in all the ninety three (93) public Primary Schools in the Council Area. He charged Head Teachers of the benefiting schools to take proper custody of the seats, and put them to effective use. He admonished the Head Teachers to ensure the seats were not damaged by pupils, reminding them of the Ministry of Education’s prohibition of religious activities in school halls and classrooms.
The Head Teacher of Lutheran Primary School, Katchuan Irruan, Mr Dominic Enyia who spoke on behalf of his colleagues expressed gratitude to the Council Chairman for the seats, and wished that the gesture goes round the entire schools in the Council area, as inadequate seats in the schools posed a grave problem for effective school administration.
Mr Enyia prayed God to continue to guide and guard the Council Chairman whom he described as the most “Education friendly Chairman” in the annals of the history of Boki Local Council Area.
Among those who graced the occasion were two past Chairmen of the Council Area, Hon Joe Tateh and Chief Jonas Obi Otu. Also present were parents, Councilors of the Wards in Boki 11 Constituency and the Council’s Supervisor for Education, Youths and Sports, Mr. Jacob Ntaji among others.
