The Chairman of Boki Local Government Area in Cross River State, Hon Abubakar Ewa during the week undertook a tour of the health facilities in the local government area to alert the nurses and other health workers on the need to be proactive and alert on the Ebola virus which is ravaging parts of West Africa.
The Chairman said the council shares extensive boundary with Cameroon which is an international boundary and requires everyone particularly the health workers to be on the watch out to avoid any ugly incident in the area.
He said his visit was also to take an inventory of the challenges facing the health centers in the council area and assured that his administration would leave no effort towards addressing some of the immediate needs and challenges of the centers.
“Boki is a large local government area and we also share an international boundary so you as health workers are an essential component in ensuring the wellbeing of our people so you have to be committed and alert particularly in the light of the Ebola virus which is spearing in some countries in the sub region”.
Mr. Ewa called for the careful handling of the revenue accruing to the local government area from the health sector because that is the source through which more facilities and immediate needs of the health centers can be addressed. “I know you are doing a commendable job so far but it is important to note that the little funds coming to the local government as revenue from the health sector has to be properly preserved”.
The Chairman called on the Public Heath Coordinator in the local government, Mrs Angela Bebia to furnish him with the location of all the health centers in the local government to enable him provide the needed data to a son of Boki resident in the United States of America who wants to provide some medical equipment to the health centers to know where the health centers are located for fast and easy supply of the items
Mrs. Bebia, the PHC Coordinator in her speech commended Hon Ewa for undertaking the trip around the health centers with some of them located in difficult and challenging environment.
According to her, Hon Ewa is the first chairman in the area to embark on such a tortuous journey which is a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare and health needs of the people of Boki.
