Following the outbreak of the Ebola virus disease, the organizers of the nations cup qualifiers match between Nigeria and Congo are screening spectators who are presently thronging the stadium to support the Super Eagles and the Congo team in an African Nation’s Cup qualifier billed to kick off by 5pm local time today.
The screening of spectators is done in all the entrance gates of the U.J. Esuene stadium. This measure according to our findings has been adopted by the NFA in collaboration with the Cross River State government to prevent the spread of the virus in the State.
During the screening, all spectators are asked to stay on a position, stretch out their right hand and open the palm widely and an automated tester will be pointed in front of the spectator, to detect the presence or absence of the virus.
When asked why the measure was employed, one of the ladies who was doing the screening, who identified herself simply as Victoria told CrossRiverWatch that the tester detect persons with high temperature, and since high fever is the commonest symptom of the disease, positive people can be easily detected.
When asked if they had tested anybody positive, she refused to comment on that.
This exercise according to many, is necessary because the match will bring many people from all walks of life to Calabar.
