The Paramount Ruler of Calabar South and Muri Munene of the Efuts has prayed that it shall not be well with those who sold out the Bakassi Peninsula under the guise of respecting the judgment of the International Court of Justice, ICJ.
The Monarch who was speaking at the 2nd Year Anniversary Lecture of CrossRiverWatch said: “We the Efiks and the Efuts who are the original inhabitants of Bakassi land have been denied access to our ancestral lands. There are certain traditional rituals that are expected to be done by us at certain periods of the year on our original soil and today we have been completely denied that right because some politicians put their interest ahead of the collective interest of our people.
“We may not be able to do anything today to those people who sold Bakassi for their pockets in the name of respecting ICJ judgment but the only thing I will say is that it shall not be well with those who sold Bakassi. “
The Monarch expressed hope that the future will seek redress of the matter while agreeing with other speakers at the event that technically, Bakassi land is still part of Nigeria and at the right time, the issue will be revisited.
