One of the chieftains of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Effiong Ekarika has finally decamped to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC after months of speculations.
Hon. Ekarika, who until his decamping was one of the ruling party’s grass roots mobilizer in Calabar, organized a cross over ceremony on Saturday at Itiat Ekpe, Marina Calabar where he renounced his membership of the ruling party. A large crowd of supporters also joined him to denounce their membership of the PDP and pledging loyalty to the opposition APC.
Hon. Ekarika has been one time PDP chairman of Ward 2, Calabar. One time Councilor of Ward 2 and 2011 aspirant for the Cross River House of Assembly under the umbrella of the PDP.
Among the APC chieftains who attended the event include the National Vice Chairman, South South, Mr. Hiliard Eta, Cross River State Chairman of the party, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, State Secretary, Mr. Victor Essien Ebong, State Woman Leader, Mrs. Joy Akpan Edward, State Legal Adviser, Barr. Lazarus Undie, Elder Statesman, Chief Eteyen Umanah among others.
Hon. Ekarika’s decamping may constitute a major blow to the ruling party as there are speculations already that his cross carpeting is to facilitate his intention to run for the State House of Assembly under the opposition party come 2015.
