There are clear indications that the current relationship between security agencies working directly in the Governor’s Office, Calabar, those on daily security patrol and Governor Liyel Imoke’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Alex Egbona has become frosty and brittle.

This because for three months, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Alex Egbona refused to release the monthly allowances due to the security agencies.

Competent sources at the Governor’s Office told CrossRiverWatch that the security operatives attached to the governor’s office and those on security patrol around the metropolis and the high ways on monthly government allowances have been asking the Abi born Chief of Staff to the Governor for their allowances for the past three months but to no avail, as he kept telling them that there was no money.

Our sources informed us that while the Chief of Staff complaint of lack of money to pay the security agencies allowances for the past three months, the security personnel became aware that his own imprest and those working with him come on monthly basis.

According to one of our source, “on discovering the Chief of staff mischief and double games, the Security men became furious on why a bloody civilian was using their head, and decided to stage what you could call a coup d’état against the Chief of Staff, and the appropriate time for them to execute their mutiny and get what has been denied them for the past three months was the visit of the Vice President, Namadi Sambo who came to represent the President, Dr, Goodluck Jonathan to carry out the ground breaking of UNICEM Cement 2.5 million metric tons a year cement line at Mfamosing, Akamkpa Local Government of Cross River state on Tuesday.”

CrossRiverWatch gathered that on the fateful day of the visit of the Vice President, the Security personnel refused to go to any official assignment until their unpaid allowances were settled.

The source explained that the action of the Security personnel caught the Chief of Staff off-guard, bearing in mind the implication of Security personnel refusing to be on duty when the nation’s number two citizen was coming to the state, “so the Chief of staff had to hurriedly call the security personnel and settle their three months unpaid allowances.

“The unanswered question is, if truly there was no money to pay the security men as claimed by the Chief of staff until they had to plan a coup against him, using the occasion of the V P’s visit, where did he get the money from to pay?”

Our sources disclosed that it is not clear whether the Governor who is out of the country was aware of what was happening, and wondered that if the security men comprising the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Police would always have to use their power and tactics to get what rightly is their due.

All attempts to speak with the Chief of Staff were unsuccessful as all calls to him phone were not picked.
