Students of the University of Calabar on Friday disrupted an attempt to kidnap a female student of the school by a gang of three men who are now cooling their feet with the police in Calabar.

The attempted kidnap which reportedly took place along Mary Slessor Avenue near the school main gate attracted the attention of an angry mob who were mostly students of the institution.

The students were said to have pounced on the kidnappers and beaten them thoroughly, forcing them to run into the security gate of the University to look for protection.

A top UNICAL security source who did not want to be named told CrossRiverWatch that: “The mob almost killed the boys if not for our intervention. They have to run here when the beating became too much for them to bear. We had to quickly protect them from being lynched and invited the police to come and pick them for further questioning.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Hogan Bassey, confirmed that the suspects are now with the police and that investigation is ongoing but was not willing to comment further.
