The immediate past Commissioner for Works in Cross River State, Mr. Legor Idagbo is gradually inching further his plans to clinch the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP 2015 guber ticket in the state.

Legor who is one of the five remaining aspirants after the party eliminated eight others unveiled his campaign office in Calabar yesterday.

The office which was donated by one of the support groups “The New Agenda Group” led by a Retired Army General, Moses Obi was to support the aspiration of the group.

Also a N5million cash donation by different grass root support groups from all the eighteen local governments was also announced for the take off of the running of the campaign office.

Speaking at the event, Legor Idagbo said the aspiration started with 22 interested contestants with each of them selling their manifestos to the people of Cross River State but he was lucky to emerge among the top five.

He said his story was like a story of David and Goliath being the youngest among the 22 aspirants who were originally eyeing the governorship seat.

“When I told many of my friends that I’m interested in taking a shot at the governorship race, some of my friends said, we love you in person, but this matter is bigger than you, I doubt if you will go far.

“Today I’m among the top five cleared by our great party, the PDP, modalities were set for us to move around and express ourselves before our people, and of all the 22 aspirants, I happen to have been the youngest.

“Having gone through that process which is acclaimed to have been free, fair and credible, the party has come out with 5 shortlisted names and in that list, I happened to be among the top.

“To me, it is a thing of joy that the youngest and most undermined should be in the top shortlisted 5 and with that I can see success at the end of this journey with the support of you all.

“My story in the governorship race is the story of David and the Goliath having come from being the youngest and now standing tall and almost becoming the best.” ‎he said.

Legor commended the leadership of the party led by the governor, Liyel Imoke and Ntufam John Okon for being neutral and proving that they are true democrats by providing a level playing ground for all to aspire.

The Chairman of the New Agenda Group, Major General Moses Obi rtd., said the group donated the office to Legor for his campaign because of its believe in generational change which desires to support continuity and good governance.

The event was attended by youth support groups, political stalwarts and elder statesmen across the 18 LGAs of Cross River State.

Gen. Obi said the sum of 5 million Naira donated by the members of the organization and other people in the state who believe Idagbo is the person who best fits into the shoes of Senator Imoke is to aid him in his campaign.

“We decided to take a look and x-ray performance in Cross River State and believe that the state has been lucky with leadership and also decided to zero in on the current political development in the state and see that the programs of Legor Idagbo are close to our agenda of continuity and good governance and therefore decided to give him the backing to actualize the dream of succeeding Senator Imoke in order to continue his program and even do more for the state”.

In attendance at the event were council chairmen, members of the State Executive Council and State House of Assembly members including, Hon. John Gaul Lebo, Hon Etim Williams, Hon George Obeneche, Mr. Emmanuel Ugbe, Chairman Obudu LGA, Abubakar Ewa, Chairman Boki LGA, Mr. Etim John, Air Marshal Osim, Mr Mark Obi among others.
