The immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Liyel Imoke, Dr. Alex Egbona who resigned recently to pursue his aspiration to represent Abi/Yakurr federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives said his most challenging period as the Chief of Staff was “When the first election of my boss was annulled and it dawned on me that I have to serve a new person as Acting Governor of Cross River State.”
Speaking during his 50th Birthday Celebration in his Agbara- Ekureku country home, the former Chief of Staff who served three Governors said his former office is a complex office that can be used to make or mar people, thanking God that he used the office well to serve his people meritoriously.
He said his most memorable period was when he resigned his position to pursue his aspiration to contest election into the House of Representatives.
“I served Imoke with clean record and I resigned with a clean record and the governor gave me an attestation to that effect for serving my State meritoriously in that capacity.”
He described the Chief of Staff office as a clearing house of the government in terms of funding government activities and thanked God that enabled him to serve for seven years, four months without blemish.
Egbona who said he is the longest serving Chief of Staff in the history of the state commended the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve under his watch.
On why he decided to celebrate his Golden Jubilee with the physically challenged persons in the village, he said: “God has blessed me enough to assist the less privileges, I am a grass root person and a Calabar based politician, so my concern is to put laughter on the faces of my people.
“The purpose of celebration was to eat, drink and dance with the less privileged because whatever you are doing, remember that there are some people who are challenged without hope.”
