Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba has refuted reports by CrossRiverWatch that his supporters were involved in a clash with supporters of Hon. Owan Enoh on Monday, October 27, 2014 in Calabar.
Eyewitnesses and Policemen among a combined team of security operatives who were drafted in from the Quick Response Squad on Monday told CrossRiverWatch that the chaos at Asari Eso street in Calabar was occasioned by an altercation between supporters of the two politicians on Asari Eso Street, Calabar. Senator Ndoma Egba’s home and Hon. Owan Enoh’s Jorany hotel are both located along Asari Eso street.
But the campaign group of the Senate Leader in an impassioned reaction to the report said, they were surprised that CrossRiverWatch which has always presented views objectively to the public went out this time around to misinform the public about what happened on Monday in Calabar.
“What happened simply was that the Etung/Obubra Federal constituency PDP politicians met in Owan Enoh’s Jorany Hotel to forge a consensus on who replaces Owan at the House of Reps. now that he has declared to challenge the distinguished senate leader. We learnt that it was when someone was announced as winner that his supporters and those of the other aspirants who lost out began the fracas and supporters of some of those declared losers took to the street and began chanting anti Owan Enoh’s songs. Our supporters were not involved with the chaos in anyway.”
Further findings by CrossRiverWatch confirmed that a meeting of politicians from Cross River Central indeed held at Jorany Hotel last Monday to choose a candidate that will replace Hon. Owan Enoh in the Federal House of Representatives and supporters of the politicians had a scuffle that spilled into Asari Eso street and occasioned the invitation of security operatives to maintain law and order and making a couple of arrests.
