The Conference of Cross River State Professionals has frowned at the reported disqualification of some governorship aspirants seeking nomination for the 2015 governorship election under the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State by a caucuses allegedly controlled by the Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke.
In a statement issued in Lagos over the weekend, Convener of the CCRP, Effiong Nyong called on the national leadership of the PDP headed by Alhaji Adamu Muazu to call Governor Imoke to order.
“The PDP leadership is hereby notified of the dangerous steps being taken by the governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke to disenfranchise some aspirants into key political offices in the state in order to favor others.
“We at the Conference of Cross River State Professionals will resist any attempt by any group of persons, no matter how highly placed, to impose certain candidates on the people. We shall mobilize and hold open demonstrations against the governor and the party if this is allowed to continue,” the statement added.
The Conference of Cross River State Professionals is a sociopolitical pressure group which serves as a watchdog and pressure group on all matters that affect the welfare of the citizens and ensures good governance in Cross River State.
