The recent open letter written to the Senator representing Southern Cross River Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Bassey Otu by some executive members of Southern Cross River Students World-Wide (SOCRISS), who dissociated ‎themselves from the endorsement of the lawmaker for a second term has received knocks from the national exco and caucus of the association.

Rising from an emergency congress in Calabar ,the National Executive Council and Caucus which is the highest decision making organ of the students body slammed suspension on six members of the executive for what they described as “fraudulent misrepresentation of the southern Cross River students” insisting that their endorsement of Senator Bassey Otu received the blessings of both the National Executive Council and Caucus of the association.

The communiqué issued at the end of the emergency congress of the students body reads in part: “In line with the constitution and convention of SOCRISS Worldwide, we the members of the National Executive Council/National Caucus of Southern Cross River State Students wish to notify ‎the public of the indefinite suspension of the following executive members of the Association: Comrade Efiok Edet (Secretary) ‎Comrade Iso Offiong (Financial Secretary), Comrade Nyoki E.Okon (Director of Welfare), Comrade Ikoh Umoh Ikoh (Director of Socials), Mfon Ikpeme (Deputy Secretary) and Egari Owete Onete (Director Of Information).

The Suspension was predicated on the open letter written on a plain sheet and not a letter headed paper of the Association to Senator Bassey Otu by the suspended members.

The NEC claim that the open letter did not receive their blessings and approval and is therefore null, void and constitute a fraudulent misrepresentation of facts.

“That the affected excos have allowed their personal interest to conflict with their conduct constitutes gross insubordination, union rascality and impertinence to this noble association‎”.

The enlarged national Executive Council/Caucus meeting said investigation on the conduct of the affected students will commence soon, stressing that they will face further Union’s sanctions if found guilty.
