There are indications that the Governing Council of the University of Calabar is preparing to have a five days meeting to discuss and take decisions on vital issues.
CrossRiverWatch investigation revealed that the meeting which will begin on Monday November 17, 2014 will be rounded up on Friday, November 21, 2014.
Sources informed us that top on the agenda of the five days meeting will be the raising of a committee that will interview candidates aspiring for the position of the Registrar of the University. The tenure of the current Registrar, Dr.(Mrs.) Julia D. Omang has elapsed.
CrossRiverWatch also gathered that the meeting will discuss the imminent exit of the incumbent vice chancellor of the university.
Prof. Epoke, is a medical laboratory scientist whose tenure as Vice Chancellor of the institution has witnessed numerous achievements and developments both academically and infrastructure wise.
The mighty edifice recently commissioned by the President of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria as the CES building is a landmark record by the VC.
The digital conduct of elections in school and the students online portal are all innovations of Prof. Epoke administration. Although Prof Epoke has recorded so many positive developments, one cannot easily forget the August 2011 incident that resulted in students riot that damaged millions of both the
students and the University properties.
Many persons are said to have indicated interest in the adorable position which so many people have said, is been zoned to northern Cross River State.
Some of those who have indicated interest include, the current Dean of the Faculty of Arts and onetime Commissioner for Education in Cross River state, Prof. Zana Akpagu, who has been predicted by many as the most likely person to succeed Prof Epoke.
A former Dean of Graduate School, Prof. Bussing is also said to be interested in the position. Another strong contender is the current Commissioner of Education in the state, Prof. Offiong Offiong and Prof. Aniah, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science is also said to be in the race as well as the immediate past Dean of Allied Medical Science, Prof.(Mrs)Ann Asuquo.
Other likely issues to be discussed by the UNICAL Governing Council may include but not restricted to Appointments and Regularization of appointments, Committee to interview and recommend a new Registrar, UNICALCON, Budget Monitoring, Projects Implementation Committees among others.
