Members of Drivers Association of Cross River State, DACRS have been advised to ply the roads with caution this festive period.
The advise was given by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police over the weekend as the Union inaugurated its new executive council to pilot the affairs of the group for two years.
The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Cross River State, FRSC Mr. Albanus Nwachukwu while speaking made it known that the role of drivers in every society cannot be over emphasized especially in the yuletide season.
The sector commander represented by ACC-OPS Joel Enwereuzor enjoined the drivers not to over load or over speed and attempt wrong over taking which most times occurs at black spots, he went on to advise the exco not to look at financial gains while in office if achievement through service is what made them to contest for their respective offices.
On his part, ASP Ubong Upoh of the Police Traffic Unit noted that a lot of crimes are committed by road users who could be members or non members of the association but urged the union members to be steadfast in their duty to fish out illegal drivers who commit crimes and spoil the union’s name.
He appealed to the union to urge other drivers to join them as they have been seen as a genuine group full of high hopes of minimizing crime on the road maintaining that Calabar will continue to witness minimal crime rates if the union works hand in hand with law enforcement agencies.
Both the Federal Road Safety Commission and the Nigeria Police cautioned the drivers to obey traffic rules particularly during this yuletide season.
Responding after the inauguration the new President Pastor Thomas Effiong pledged to lead his people through the right path in partnership with the law enforcement agencies.
