The new Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command Mr. Henry Fadairo has disclosed that men of his command on Thursday, penultimate week, intercepted 8 dynamites in Calabar.
The Commissioner made this disclosure while playing host to executive members of Drivers Association of Cross River State, DACRS in his Calabar office and added that the police “Decided to be quite about it”.
He extolled the union saying they are very important; assuring that the police will partner them for safer roads and a better society at large. Mr. Henry enjoined the drivers’ exco members to strive and develop themselves in all ramifications.
Earlier, Pastor Thomas Effiong Okon the state chairman of the union explained that the rationale for the courtesy call is to welcome him and familiarize themselves with the new Commissioner because of their crucial role as the largest union of drivers in the state.
He reminded the commissioner of their plight which was documented into a petition tagged “A petition against unlawful harassment of commercial drivers by hoodlums and illegal enforcement within Calabar metropolis” signed by both the state chairman and secretary respectively of the union dated 10th December, 2014.
In the petition which was made available to CrossRiverWatch the drivers lamented that the Government Task Force and Enforcement team is made up of area boys who are denying drivers their fundamental rights on the roads.
Also in the petition they threatened to employ jungle justice to tackle their challenges with the enforcement teams if the matter is not treated amicably.
