As part of activities marking the centenary memorial of Mary Slessor, the Scottish evangelist famed for stopping the killing of twins in Calabar, the Women Guild of Presbyterian Church over the weekend held a procession in her honor.
The procession which took off from the Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar walked through Eleven-Eleven roundabout into Calabar road, entering Mary Slessor road and terminated at the Mary Slessor roundabout where a brief prayer was held in her honor.
The march is the inaugural event in a lineup of other activities by several groups to celebrate the centenary memorial of the famous evangelist.
Mary Slessor came to Calabar on the 11th of September, 1876 and died on January 13th, 1915. She was buried at the Mission Hill Cemetery, Anderson street, Calabar South, Cross River State.
