The Muri Munene of the Efut Nation and Paramount Ruler of Calabar South in Cross River State, Muri Effiong Mbukpa has called on all Cross Riverians and non Cross Riverians residing in the state to exercise their franchise wisely in the forth coming general election in the state and country at large.
The Monarch who made the call recently in an interview with CrossRiverWatch stressed that “Only when we all use the strength of our votes efficiently, can we bring about a team of leaders that will put first the interest of their people before personal glorification because the process that gave birth to them will be transparent”.
Going on, he maintained that the electoral process will never be transparent if those whose statutory duty it is to elect their representatives fail to do so, adding that until the people are properly educated and sensitized about their role in the electoral process, the true power of the votes will continue to be under estimated.
Muri Munene revealed that because he understands the power of the voter’s card, he made the collection mandatory for all his chiefs, “I made it mandatory that any of my council chiefs and others get their voters card which is why in my council meeting if any chief don’t come with his voters card that chief won’t be allowed entry”.
He advised all and sundry to put their hands on deck to ensure that credible candidates emerge as leaders.
