The Cross River State Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Police Headquarters Diamond Hill Calabar has been urged to immediately intervene and launch an investigation into a case of attempted murder.
The call was made by Barrister James Ibor, the Principal Counsel, Basic Rights Council, solicitor to Mr. Nkasi Ibe of Ejiman, Ajere Ekori Yakurr L.G.A who was alleged to have been attacked and beaten till he became unconscious by a ten man gang which according to him was armed with some weapons he identified as guns, machetes and planks.
According to the letter which was made available to CrossRiverWatch, “In January 27, 2015 he, Mr. Nkasi was taking a walk along the Nairobi Junction at about 6:20pm in the company of two of his friends, when he saw a group of young men armed with guns and machetes.
“Upon coming closer and observing carefully, our client identified some of them as: Moses Ubi Eko, Usang Omini Usang, Ekubi Eteng Ibor, Eno Peter Egede, Ikoi John James, Obongha Akong Obongha, Ubangha Eno Omini, Enyim Sunday Ofor, Ndi Edet Tete, and Itiaba Egede Otu”.
Going further, the letter stated that “As the gang gradually advanced towards them, they shouted at our client and his friends saying: ‘stop there or you are dead’ at this point, our client and his friends became afraid and started running for their dear lives, whereupon he heard gun fire and was struck down. He regained consciousness in the hospital where doctors are still battling to treat his bullet wounds”.
