The Bakassi Freedom Fighters, BFF one of the militant groups which embraced the federal government’s amnesty program in the Niger Delta today protested to the Governors office in Calabar over unpaid remunerations.
The “ex-militants” as they called themselves numbering about twenty could be seen at the main gate leading to the office shouting at some staff who were inside the premises, after a security official promptly locked the gates following their arrival and demanding for “their entitlements” which they say has not been paid for months now.
The Nigeria Police Force Akim division responded quickly and dispatched officers almost double the number of the ex-militants who on reaching the venue decided on a truce as principal government officers were not on seat.
The protest which lasted for over two hours died down after a police officer gave the group the sum of five thousand Naira for transportation with a promise to convey them in a police van to a place where they could get a vehicle back to their location.
The leader of the ex militants who simply identified himself as Tony, while speaking to CrossRiverWatch, vowed that they will return tomorrow been Thursday, February 26, 2014 claiming the State Security Adviser, Mr. Rekpene Bassey had refused giving them what they are entitled to.
