The Independent National Electoral Commission in Cross River State has immortalized the immediate past Resident Electoral Commissioner of the State, Mr. Mike Igini by naming it’s newly completed 500 capacity conference hall after him in recognition of his contribution to enhancing the credibility of the commission during his period in the state.
A member of the staff of the Commission who pleaded anonymity told CrossRiverWatch that “The hall was named after him because of his tremendous achievements within the time he served here.”
Some of the strides of Igini according to the INEC staff in Calabar include enhancing the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that votes counted in Cross River State, renovation and furnishing the REC’s official residence and INEC state office main block, furnishing of all offices with state of the art furniture and equipment, provision of flat screen television sets and refrigerators to most offices, purchase of two new transformers, purchase of new desktop computers, and renovation and furnishing of the mini conference hall with modern furniture.
Others include: construction and furnishing of a ten room office block, construction of 500 sitting capacity INEC conference center and provision of furniture, provision of new state of the art public address system and communication equipments for voters education department, purchase of mowing machines, installation of air conditioners in the mini conference hall, provision of new giant size photocopiers to the REC and administrative secretary’s office, introduction of ballot magazine and introduction of capacity test for all electoral officers and administrative officers before their postings amongst others.
The former Cross River State REC who was recently posted to Edo State was not available for any comment at the time of filing this report.
