It was a day of joy on Tuesday, 17th March in Akpabuyo Local government area on the occasion of the showcase of GEMS3 facilitated tax for service projects and graduation/empowerment of 141 women trained under the supervision of the women development unit of the LGA for the acquisition of various skills.
The Chairman of Akpabuyo LGA, Hon. Patrick Ene Okon who was visibly excited while handing out the various equipment that would be handed over to the beneficiaries such as industrial ovens for the caterers, mats and bead sets, hair dryers, soap making machines, and sewing machines was very proud to say that all projects were carried out entirely by funds generated from the council’s improved IGR.
He stated that since the initiation of the tax for service drive which was born out of the tax harmonization project facilitated by a DFID funded support program, Growth and Employment in States, GEMS3, the council had embarked on several projects to the benefits of the tax payers.
The Chairman also announced other notable tax for service projects to include:
– Connection of five communities in Eneyo South ward to the National grid (Edemsa – Abakot – IkotAdiaha – Ikot EtimInyang – AkpakEneyo);
– Grading/filling of feeder roads in Eneyo South and North, Grading/Filling of feeder roads in Edem Odo and Edet Nsa wards;
– And Construction of an ICT Center to teach and enable the young people and students use online facilities for school work.
