The People of Bakassi in the riverine part of Cross River State say the successful and peaceful conduct of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections was a reflection of their desire to embrace change and demand for their resettlement by the next government.
Led by Senator Florence Ita Giwa, the Bakassi people said their resolve to vote for Senator Ben Ayade of the Peoples Democratic Party was as a result of the pledge made to them by the candidate during his campaign to develop Dayspring Island.
They said the issue of Health, Education and portable drinking water promised by Ayade to the riverine communities of Dayspring should be remembered when elected.
She said “That all these people in their hundreds came out on their own without going to their fishing business to vote with one voice for the PDP candidates speak volumes of our collective effort of voter education and sensitization.
“Democracy is working and Nigerians in Bakassi Island have embraced democracy by choosing to vote on their own unlike what we used to pass through in the past.”
Also at the Island were the Chairman of Bakassi Local Government, Mrs Edisua Iso and President Bakassi General Assembly.
