Staff of the Mirage Hotel Calabar, owned by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke have called on the management of the hotel to pay them their 11 months arrears of salaries.
The workers who made their feelings known during the 2015 Workers Day celebration held at the Abraham Ordia stadium, UNICAL on Friday carried placards during the traditional May Day match past demanding the settlement of their 11 months arrears of salaries.
Some of the placards reads thus: “NLC and TUC, we have exhausted all option. Please help us”, “The Mirage hotel, pay us our 11 Months Salary.
One of the worker who spoke exclusively with CrossRiverWatch, but would not want his name in this report for fear of victimization said that it was sad that the management of the hotel have no human feelings.
He revealed that much revenue is generated every day by the workers who are made to work for the monies but are refused their due entitlements including their salaries for 11 months now.
“The management of the hotel and the owner who is a serving minister cannot say that they are not solving their own families problems, while they allow us without our rightful entitlements for 11 months now”.
He therefore called on labour leaders in the state to do something urgently to remedy their situations.
