Some of the students who were rejected by some departments in the University of Calabar, following what authorities termed OVER ADMISSION by the management of the institution have threatened to take legal action as well as any other action to regain their place in the school.
CrossRiverWatch reported last week that various departments, including the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health and the Department of Medicine and Surgery were rejecting some fresh students who were admitted into the departments.
Some of the rejected students were advised to pick the ‘change of course’ form into other departments that are capable and ready to accommodate them. Fortunately, some of the rejected students have opted for change of departments, but unfortunately others who are determined to keep the admission given to them by JAMB have vowed to go to court to regain their admission.
Some of the rejected students who spoke to our reporter in anonymity for fear of victimization, threatened to drag the University and the respective departments involved to court to demand justice and regain their admission.
A rejected student from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science who only identified himself simply as John recalled how he resumed early and paid the 15,000 naira acceptance fee but, was rejected by the HOD at the point of clearance. He described the action of the University as an act of injustice of the highest order, and has vowed to go to court to seek justice.
Another respondent to also simply identified herself as Abigail, who was rejected from the Department of Public Health, said “the University matriculation is coming in few days, and am still roaming about the institution like a sheep without a shepherd. I have been to three different departments seeking for a change of course, but all efforts are in futility. I really don’t know what to do.” she concluded.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of the institution has continued to warn all the Heads of Departments rejecting students to stop that forthwith, but his admonition seem to be falling on deaf ears.
