The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, UNICAL Prof. James Epoke has admonished fresher’s of the institution to be law abiding within and outside the school.
The VC who made the call during the 37th matriculation ceremony held yesterday at the Abraham Ordia Stadium in the institution said, “It is, thus, a great challenge to all of you who have been given admission to live up to expectation and defend your admission by working hard and passing your examinations very well. You are expected to keep to the rules and regulations of the school, bearing in mind that ignorance is no excuse for defaulters”.
Furthermore, he revealed that: “It is pertinent to inform you that more than 25,000 candidates chose the University of Calabar as their first choice in their JAMB forms. Of the 25,000, 12,340 scored above 180 in JAMB and were invited for the attitude test, through which 6,395 candidates were admitted”.
In the same vein, the Registrar of the University, Mr. Moses Abang extolled the students for their victory over the university’s stiff admission requirements.
He enjoined the fresher’s to utilize the school’s library always for their success on campus. His word, “I implore you to always make constant recourse to the books in the school library. Also you should explore the internet facilities of the school’s E-library, to equip yourselves mentally and psychologically”.
Following the registrar’s speech was a presentation of the new students by Deans of each faculty before the Vice Chancellor, who inducted them.
After the induction, the Vice Chancellor led the procession once again out of the ceremony while the UNICAL team band spiced up the fresher’s with splendid musical performance.
