I wish to draw the attention of enthusiasts, followers, sycophants, admirers, anchors, supporters, etc. of politicians and political leaders and especially of, the State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade to this uproar and hype so created in the popular social media around that may rather end up hurting the young man than help him.
First off, folks go around abusing Joe Agi (SAN) and any other persons they perceive not to be supporting Ayade or other choice politician. This is democracy and never a military system. People have rights. Anybody can use the courts to put their grievances forward for purposes of justice.
That Ayade is perceived by anybody to be a ‘good man’ has not stopped anybody else from seeking justice. Only the courts can tell who is right and who is wrong. That Ayade gave you anything does not mean if his hands are soiled or PDP soiled its hands in selecting him, justice should not be sought. In fact, a ‘good man’ ensures all the time that his ambition squares in with the law of the land. In fact, only a ‘bad man’ breaks the law. Have you thought about this?
So please, let’s not sound very uninformed, unexposed and uneducated here. Anything said or done on the face of this social media doesn’t change the course of the law. And even if it takes twenty years, technically, anytime judgment comes down, if it favors Ayade, that’s it! But if it favors Agi, whether you like it or not, he will become the governor.
Why do we who have nothing to say in the process give ourselves sleepless nights? It’s really stupid to think that what we say here matters.
Secondly, the media hype over His Excellency’s activities is just that: media hype! To some of us, it says nothing, does nothing, effects nothing, and doesn’t add a single item of interest to the table for any discussion!
I’m told that an MOU has been signed for the road from Calabar to Obudu without being told where the money is coming from. I’m told the governor intends to talk to the Federal government to bring them in.
That means that has not been done yet. I’m told His Excellency is very fast, he has even inspected the garment factory without being told who is building that project and where the money is coming from. People, you can deceive a few, not everybody!
What I and a few other people want to see is a REAL PLAN. We call it feasibility study and possibly a business plan of what is to be done, how much it takes, what it takes, what is produced, how much is produced, what the market is, what the revenue will be, who will work there, etc. If there is such document anywhere, make it public for our knowledge.
That is how a government carries the people along! Not media hype by a bunch of individuals who seem to never have been involved in running a mama put or kiosk stand anywhere even in their villages! Please, I need a break, seriously!
And of course, it would make a lot of a difference if it were Pat Utomi, a classical economist of high repute or even a Professor of Business Management even from UNICAL here who comes out here to give us an exposition of the government’s plan in this regard. We would waive the rest of the things in trust that the professionals probably understand what we don’t.
But you recruit a bunch of hungry novices, put them together and ask them to clap with every step you take! Wow! Out here, some of this hype sounds shameful to the ear! It’s cheap publicity! It’s unnecessary dust raised! It’s irresponsible followership! It’s insensitive hullabaloo that doesn’t take into account the effect it is creating. And His Excellency should try tune down the rhetoric of this bunch. They may be doing more harm than good.
Lastly, anybody can be in government but there is something called ‘refresher courses’. Please, I plead with His Excellency to send these fresh folks somewhere for three-month or six-month refresher courses so they can come back and offer something. Except if His Excellency intends to be the only idea-head on the block.
Else, there is something called ‘growing through the ranks’. I doubt the face of the war or its outcome when you retire all the officers and promote Sergeants to Generals and give them a war to execute. I leave the rest to anybody’s guess. One could leave a good excuse that fresh blood should be injected but it is dangerous to good governance.
I dare anybody to give me a simple arithmetic index that explains a near-zero ratio of experience to incompetence in public administration. You don’t beat experience. And there is no point to be made here other than an attempt to look different when it’s unnecessary. This is the time to make sense by what we see, not by what we hear.
I rest my case…
