Cross River Assembly Approves 35 Special Advisers For Governor Ayade

The Cross River House of Assembly (CRSHA) has approved Governor Ben Ayade request for 35 Special Advisers.

In its sitting today Tuesday, June 30, 2015, the House reminded the Governor to ensure that when carrying out the appointments, it should be done in line with the provisions of section 14 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which stipulates that it should reflect spread and diversity of the Federation or the State as the case may be.

Contained in a letter dated June 29, 2015 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG ), Barrister Tina Agbor, the governor requested the House to approve the appointment of 35 Special Advisers.

Speaking, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon John Gaul explained that section 196 of the 1999 Constitution empowered the House to carry out such approvals and that the Special Advisers are expected to exhibit high level of patriotism by selflessly contributing to the development and realization of the vision of the State government.

He further stated that they will also be required to render an account of their stewardship when the need arise especially during budget defense.

Deputy Speaker, Hon Joseph Bassey, representing. Calabar II state constituency; said that government will no longer be business as usual and that the Special Advisers when appointed will be required to work for the overall interest of the development of the State and that the House will carry out effective oversight functions on the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.

The submission and approval of the request for 35 Special Advisers marks the beginning of the gradual constitution of the number one decision making body of the State, the Cross River State Executive Council.
