Junior staff of Obudu Ranch Resort on Friday chased the General Manager, Mr. Trynos Makiwa out of the resort and prevented him from resuming work as he was returning from a long holiday.
CrossRiverWatch gathered that the workers are angry with the Zimbabwean over the non payment of their salaries for the past six months. Executives of the workers union on hearing that Mr. Trynos had returned from his long holiday, mobilized themselves, went to the GM’s apartment and ordered him out of the facility.
A source among the workers Union exco who did not want to be named, told CrossRiverWatch that, “Mr. Makiwa who is a representative of the African Sun group, had gone on holiday and was just returning to the office. But we the workers prevented him from assuming duty unless our six months salaries are paid.
“The contract with African Sun, Managers of the resort which Mr. Trynos is representing, has also expired and we see no reason whatsoever why he should return here and not stay in his country.
“We simply chased him out of his apartment and out of the Ranch on that day up to kilometre one and a vehicle later took him to Obudu town where he is now presently staying.” The source who was present on the day of the incident said.
CrossRiverWatch however gathered that, the Community Liaison Officer at the Tourism Bureau, DGM, Mr. Clement Anake who is allegedly providing shelter for the GM down the Ranch has vowed to return to the ranch with Mr. Trynos with mobile policemen and ensure he is allowed to resume work regardless of the grievances of the of the angry Union members.
But the workers have also said that they are ready to confront Mr. Anake and the mobile policemen anytime they return with Mr. Trynos.
Several staff of the Resort confirmed the incident happened but did not want to be named.
CrossRiverWatch was unable to reach both Mr. Anake and Mr. Trynos at the time of filing this report.
