Traffic Jam As Contractor Evacuates Calabar Refuse At Daytime

Despite the directive given by the state government for refuse evacuation in Calabar to be carried out between the hours of 11pm and 6am, contractors have continuously disobeyed this with the most recent disruption of traffic for over thirty minutes yesterday.

The refuse evacuation truck belonging to “Paconsu Environmental Services”, one of the privately owned companies contracted by the state government to evacuate waste, was parked across the road near the Skye bank premises with its attendants caring little about the implications of their actions as they kept asking and sometimes shouting at commuters to allow them do their job.

Motorists and other road users had no option but to wait for the truck attendants to carry out the operation which lasted for almost thirty four minutes (from 9:58am to 10:32am) causing traffic jam up to Calabar road by White House street.

It will be recalled that CrossRiverWatch reported recently that Governor Benedict Ayade while on an inspection tour of the state of the environment in Calabar, expressed disappointment over the inability of contractors to deliver on contractual terms and said he was going to divide the refuse evacuation contract to more companies to guarantee efficiency and effectiveness.
