Students of the State in tertiary institutions have been assured of the esteemed support and cooperation of the office and person of the Speaker of Cross River state House of Assembly.
The assurance was given recently by the Speaker, Hon John Gaul Lebo, when the Adadama Students Union (ASU) paid a courtesy call to his office.
Addressing the students’ body, the Speaker who schooled the students on the benefits of education and why students must take their studies seriously, observed that he was a product of diligent study.
Hon Lebo maintained that his scholarship scheme would be widened to accommodate students beyond his immediate constituency, noting that the gesture had become necessary since he was not only a member but also the Speaker of the House of Assembly.
He intimated the Adadama Students of plans to site an ultra-modern Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Center in Abi in partnership with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) while submitting that the project would help to bridge the ICT gap in the area.
The Speaker, who averred that education would gain priority in his agenda, tendered that unserious students would not benefit from his programs and projects in this respect.
Earlier, the President of the Adadama Students Union (ASU) Comrade John Francis said that the visit became necessary to enable the Union congratulate the Speaker on his election and to further interact with him as an emeritus President of the ASU while highlighting the problems faced by the Union which among others include the lack of ICT center which according to him would aid the performance of the Students.
High point of the visit was the presentation of a souvenir, an enlarged photo portrait of the Speaker to the Honorable Speaker.
The students leader, Comrade John Francis was accompanied on the visit by the Vice President, Elege Florence, Secretary Aaron Anthony, the Treasurer Adaga Edu as well as the Director of Information of the Union, Comrade Elemi Sunday.
