The Cross River State government may soon begin the public auction of old and irreparable vehicles to fund the purchase of new ones CrossRiverWatch has reliably gathered just as the Government House Press Corps has suffered immobility due to vehicle breakdown for over a fortnight.
Sources in the governor’s office say it is still unclear whether “oga’s” decision will only affect the dilapidated vehicles that are occupying a vast parking space in the premises of the governor’s office or those in the asset register of Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Commissions.
Commercial tow trucks have since began towing away the vehicles which were now a sore sight to the parking lot of the Ministry of Works headquarters at Ekorinim with concerns over transparency in dealings if the sales plan scales through as past dealings have seen a few within a circle and clique of loyalists and associates of the main dealer going home with most proceeds of such transactions.
Meanwhile the Government House Press Corps has been plagued by transportation problems since the return from Obudu for the governor’s thanksgiving forcing correspondents to squeeze into vehicles designated for Protocol and Security personnel sometimes receiving insults in the process.
Some of the members of the Press Corps who spoke with CrossRiverWatch expressed surprise that the CPS will allow them to face this kind of embarrassing situation knowing the critical position and role of the press in the government house.
