The panel set up by the Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar to investigate allegations of rape against the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Professor Cyril Ndifon, has completed its citizen and suspended the Professor from the services of the institution.

Professor Ndifon was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year old 400-level student of law in his office and was subsequently arrested and detained by the police in Calabar before being released on bail.

While the police told CrossRiverWatch that investigation into the allegation is ongoing, the committee concluded its sitting and recommended the immediate suspension of Professor Ndifon pending the completion of the judicial process as it it clear the matter is proceeding to court. He was consequently suspended with effect from last Thursday.

The Spokesman of the institution was not immediately available for comments but a member of the panel who did not want to be named told CrossRiverWatch that: “Yes, we have finished our preliminary findings and I must tell you that there are so many of those young girls who are alleging all kinds of assault against him (Professor Ndifon). Though we all hold that people are innocent until proven guilty, when so many unrelated people, both those who are still in school and those who have long passed out are saying the same thing about one person, it leaves room for a lot to be desired.

“It was our collective decision that to protect the image of UNICAL, he should be temporary relieved of his duties here pending the conclusion of the judicial process which the family of the girl is poised to endure.”
