We Will Allow Off Color Taxis Operate In Calabar – Mfon Bassey, Commercial Transport Regulatory Agency

The Chairman of the Cross River State Commercial Transport Regulatory Agency, CTRA Mr. Mfon Bassey, has revealed to CrossRiverWatch that since his office gave ultimatum of 30 days to all unregistered taxis in the State metropolis to do the mandatory accreditation with the government, only 16 have met the requirements and 50 more are in the process.

He vowed that any taxi that is not registered will be impounded and victims will pay heavily to reclaim their cars and encouraged drivers to take advantage of the open window period to do the needful.

As part of his innovation in the Agency, he also revealed that off-color taxis will be allowed to operate but must pass through the State Governments data capturing process after which successful ones will be given tags in form of stickers for security reasons so that Cross Riverians will be able to identify who is who.

He further maintained that part of what informed his decision to allow off-color taxis is because he discovered that many people drive taxis at spare hours just to make up and by allowing off-color taxis to operate, it will enable the State Government to generate more revenue.
