A bus conveying passengers in Okuku, in Yala LGA of Cross River state crashed into a gully from an uncompleted bridge, a fortnight ago leaving the passengers with several degrees of injuries following the inability of the contractor to complete the bridge project.

It is unclear where the vehicle was heading to but eyewitness account say the uncompleted bridge linking Echumogar and Okuku communities is to blame as the contractor is said to be a novice but got the job due to political affiliation with political big wigs in the local government area.

The contractor, one Chief Ogbuole Agi who operates as Gabags Nigeria Ltd is reportedly a carpenter with no knowledge of the civil engineering sector but calls himself an engineer owing to his status.

This according to respondents who spoke on condition of anonymity is a pointer to how far the society has degenerated with several young Yala indigenes jobless due to “acts such as these”.

CrossRiverWatch however gathered the local government area has so far halted the execution of the project for reasons which as at the time of going to press were unclear.

Efforts to get the reaction of Chief Agi and the local government authorities have so far proved abortive.
