The Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. John Gaul Lebo has urged the Assembly staff to dissociate themselves from the current NLC strike in the state.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Azogor Ideba and made available to CrossRiverWatch, Hon. John Gaul Lebo equally asks all staff to accordingly, resume work in their respective offices tomorrow Monday, 5th October, 2015.
The Speaker said that the Assembly as an Institution is ahead of the issues raised by the Union with respect to the strike and they are not arguable as they also concern the Assembly staff.
The Speaker reminds the staff that salaries are now being paid regularly on or before 25th of every month since the inception of the present administration adding that imprest and statutory allowances are regularly paid as well.
He regrets that the NLC still went on to embark on a strike action in spite of the commitments of the state government towards addressing labor issues in the state.
His words: “In the context of the immediate picture analysis, strike is not the best evacuation corridor to resolve any issue now or in the future.
“As legislative architects, the House of Assembly staff occupy a special place in the state governance machinery. The Cross River State House of Assembly is currently rated as one of the best in the country with 10 laws and 10 pending crucial bills at committee stages, so far. Without the Assembly staff, this success won’t have been possible. They are the foundation of the achievements recorded by the House of Assembly; they have distinguished themselves. Now is the time to further prove so, by showing leadership”, the statement concluded.
