The town hall project initiated by indigenes of Okuku community in Yala local government area is yet to be complete despite inputs of funds amounting over 50 million Naira sources say.
The money it is alleged was raised from the sale of lands with less than 10 percent of the said sum expended on the project. CrossRiverWatch gathered from sources that Okuku was the first community to initiate such a project in the local government with others following suit and completing such while the said Okuku Town Hall is far from completion.
Investigations by CrossRiverWatch also revealed that the first hurdle encountered was not finance but envy as every notable indigene of the community wanted the glory of building the community a town hall which led to continuous backstabbing till the community began selling plots of land for its completion.
The building which is located in the heart of Okuku community, a couple of minutes walk away from MaryKnoll College has so far been abandoned with unconfirmed information reaching CrossRiverWatch suggesting “not a dime is left in the community’s purse despite sales of plots of lands worth over 50 million Naira”, a youth alleged.
