Police sources have just informed CrossRiverWatch that the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Professor Cyril Ndifon who is being accused of raping a 20 year old, 400 level student in his office, was today detained at the Force Headquarters, Abuja on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase.
Our source said “following the completion of the investigation by the IPO and her team and a petition sent to the IG by the Nigerian Feminist Forum, NFF a signal was sent to Calabar to transfer the suspect (Professor Ndifon) to the Force Headquarters and when we arrived Abuja today, there were orders to detain him and he has been detained.
“The complainant is also expected here in Abuja during the week to give her own statement again to the police here and most likely by Friday, we may return the suspect to Calabar to be arraign in Court.”
CrossRiverWatch gathered that the Police wanted the complainant in Abuja tomorrow but she has another examination to write and will only be available in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Investigating Police Officer, Supol Beatrice Odey said she had no authority to comment on the matter.
Professor Ndifon was arrested by the Police in Calabar last month and released on bail following allegations that he raped his student.
