The attention of the Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly has been drawn to a publication on CrossRiverWatch, (an online Newspaper) of Tuesday November, 24 2015 headlined, ‘’We Are Taken For Granted, We Are Boycotting All State Functions – Assembly Members Threaten Ayade, ‘’ which was attributed to Hon. Hilary E. Bisong, the Chairman of the House Committee on Culture, Tourism and Event Management.
It is very unfortunate that the Mr. Kenneth Aklah, the Special Adviser on Events Management is not according the House of Assembly its due respect otherwise; there would have been no reason for the Chairman House Committee on Culture, Tourism and Event Management to complain.
While I frown at this seemingly unbearable attitude of Mr Kenneth Aklah, I also condemn in totality any act that debases the House of Assembly or any committee of the House or any member.
If a House Committee Chairman frowns at the way events of the state are managed, then it is a serious concern that must be taken seriously by the authority concerned.
The Special Adviser on Events Management, Kenneth Aklah and other managers of state events should therefore, take appropriate steps to forestall the repetition of this appalling situation by promptly notifying the House Committee on Culture, Tourism and Events Management of their plans or future events.
It should be clearly stated here that there was no decision by the House of Assembly to boycott all state functions as any such decision will be collectively reached by the entire members of the House.
The statements credited to Hon Hilary Bisong, the Chairman House Committee on Culture, Tourism and Event Management was not intended to portray a rift between the House of Assembly and the governor but merely an expression of the displeasure of the Committee Chairman over the action of the Special Adviser on Events Management.
