There was drama today at the Calabar office of the Cross River State Water Board Limited as staff working for one of its contractors locked the premises of water board in protest against their unpaid salary arrears.

Contract staff working for Techvibe, an IT company that is managing the Water Board, told CrossRiverWatch this morning that they took the decision to protest because their colleagues working directly with government in water board have been paid while they who work for Techvibe don’t know their fate with only a few days to Christmas and three months salary arrears.

When our reporter got to the scene, there was a heavy detachment of armed policemen and other security agents who were keeping watch over the premises of the company leaving no one in doubt about the palpable tension.

The protesting workers had been dispersed and were only hanging around the adjoining streets leaving the pad locks hanging on the gates of the premises and preventing movement into or out of the compound.
