Commercial motorcyclists in Calabar the Cross River Capital have blocked the gate of the head office of the Emergency Response Center (ERC) in Calabar over the alleged killing of two of their colleagues.
It is currently unclear to CrossRiverWatch what the altercation that led to the shooting of the bikers is, where and when it happened.
However, one of the bikers took this reporter in confidence saying three were shot with one dying at the spot while one of the other two who were taken to an undisclosed hospital was reported dead by colleagues who had arrived the scene from the hospital.
The bikers who allegedly operate illegally following the ban placed on commercial motorcycling by the state government dropped the corpse of their colleague who died on the spot in front of the gate.
The bikers could be heard vowing not to move an inch until the two alleged naval officers attached to the Quick Intervention Squad who gunned down their colleagues are brought to book and kept pointing at one naval officer inside the ERC compound as one of the “killers”.
As at press time the bikers were still there with heavily armed security operatives attached to the QIS unit guarding the ERC office which is located opposite the governor’s office along Leopard road.
The State Security Adviser, Jude Ngaji who watched the scenario from afar and could be heard by this reporter informing someone that some of the bikers are the ones causing mayhem and carrying out petty theft around the city with over 60 ATM cards reportedly snatched.
When approached, the SSA returned this reporter’s greetings who waited anxiously for him to get his reaction only for him to enter his car and drive off as soon as he finished talking with an acquaintance.
