Monday, February 8th, 2016, the 14 dismissed policemen who allegedly killed late Derek Maurice Ben and five others on the 17th April 2014 at about 2am, will appear before the State Deputy Chief Judge, Justice Mike Edem of the Federal High Court 2, Calabar Division, CrossRiverWatch authoritatively report.
There have been accusations by families and lawyers to the victims, that after a police investigative panel indicted the dismissed cops and subsequent recommendations made by the erstwhile Commissioner For Justice/Attorney General, Atta Ochinke, that the accused persons be prosecuted, efforts were being made to frustrate the appearance of the killer cops in court and set them free through the back door.
While doubting the sincerity of the state in prosecuting the dismissed policemen, a relation of one of the deceased victims told CrossRiverWatch that: “Aka Bisong Head of Department of Public Prosecution had officially commended the men (killer cops) and that is what is been considered. These men have filed in four separate appeals for bail which they hope to get on Monday in court. The presiding Judge, the Deputy Chief Judge, we know is very corrupt and it’s no secret. He has done several hatchet jobs.”
