Wipe A Tear Today Initiative, a non governmental organization has awarded scholarships to 20 pupils in Obudu local government area of Cross River State.
The organization also paid the current and outstanding hospital bills of several patients at the Sacred Heart Hospital Obudu.
Over 20 secondary school students from villages in Ipong community and Bebuagbong village benefitted from the scholarship awards.
The founder, Theresa Udie, a Cross Riverian based in Abuja told CrossRiverWatch that the initiative formed “part of the commitment of Wipe A Tear Today to alleviate the sufferings of indigent widows and single mothers in Obudu, Cross River State.”
An undisclosed number of patients at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Obudu also had their current and outstanding bills paid for them by the organization.
Theresa while addressing a section of the patients said the gesture is a way of giving back to the society, adding that, “our motivation was simply to reduce the burden of these bills on indigent citizens, thereby contributing our own little quota to ensuring better health delivery for the people of my community.”
