No fewer than 2,946 students were matriculated into the over 25 programs offered in the Cross River State owned Cross River University of Technology on Wednesday and Thursday across the 4 campuses of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Anthony Owan Enoh in his matriculation address warned that the varsity’s management will no longer tolerate the excesses perpetuated by staff and students through what he termed “Class Reps.”

Owan while welcoming all to the 14th matriculation ceremony gave the breakdown of the number of students admitted by faculties and campuses as follows;

Faculty of Agriculture, Obubra Campus – 46
Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Okuku – 258
Faculty of Management Science, Abakpa – 595
Faculty of Science, Calabar – 560
Faculty of Education, Calabar – 580
Faculty of Environmental Science, Calabar – 307
Faculty of Engineering, Calabar -389
Faculty of Comm. Technology, Calabar – 211

Owan who said the best was yet to come in terms of effective management of resources available to provide sustainable platforms for the students to learn, expressed angst at the way staff and students compromised marks and results through the use of Class Reps whom he said if caught, henceforth, will be expelled.

He lauded the management team for what he described as “An impressive outing in the accreditation process as compared to most State and Federal Universities and promised that new hostel accommodations will be provided across the four campuses of the varsity.

He also called on students to pay their fees promptly and stressed the need for all students to respect the policy of carry-over courses.

The matriculation ceremony held across the four campuses of the institution starting with Calabar and Obubra campuses on Wednesday and has since rounded off with the Abakpa in Ogoja and Okuku in Yala campuses today.

Matriculating students who spoke with CrossRiverWatch say they are delighted to be formally welcomed into the institution.

“I feel great, awesome and quite amazing to be formally accepted into CRUTECH. Though the matriculation came in late but it is good that finally I can now say I am an undergraduate” said Angela Ochui who got admitted in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science.

“It is great, I enjoyed the ceremony, I will bask in the euphoria of the moment but quickly settle down to study after today to come out with good grades,” adds Gabriel Udama, who says he is studying to be an Engineer.
