The Cross River State Commissioner for Rural Transformation, Establishment and Training Mr. Sunday Achunekang has said that his Ministry is looking at new ways to ease the suffering encountered by Pensioners in the State, by digitalizing the entire process.
The Commissioner who spoke with CrossRiverWatch in his office said that the digitalization of pension documentation and payment process will go a long way to bring succor to the teeming number of retired civil servants who go through hell to get what is due to them.
“We can’t adopt an old method towards solving a problem and expect different results. We have resolved as a Ministry that we should go digital. And so when we go digital and computerise all of this, so at a tap of a finger we should be able to know who is due for retirement and what day.
“So we can become proactive, get these processes ready, so upon this retirement there would be no reasons for unneccesary bottlenecks and bureaucratic processes. A lot of times we see our brothers and sisters who have served the State meritoriously languish because it takes time for their entitlements to mature.”
The Commissioner further added that the digitalization will help in curbing corruption in pension administration in the State.
“We have set out deliberately to lock those leakages. The whole solutions lies in the approach of making everything digitalized, it erodes other dirty methods where ugly hands were having their day; that will pass.”
The Commissioner also added that as a deliberate effort towards killing ignorance and improve the capacity of civil servants in the State, his Ministry will from time to time be organizing training for the State’s workers and has also set it target on the transformation of the Cross River State Management Development Institute, expanding its scope from its current focus on lower and middle cadre of the civil service and equipping it to be able to train all cadre in both the civil and public service.
