A socio-political organisation in Cross River State ,”Destiny Group” has charged the University of Calabar Vice Chancellor, Professor Zana Akpagu to live up to his promises to turn around most of the moribund infrastructure and improve students welfare as the first alumni of the University to attain such a position in UNICAL.
Doing this according to the group will make the Vice Chancellor keep a date with higher service in the nearest future.
The Director General of the group, Barrister Joe Edet who led other members of the group to host the Vice Chancellor in Calabar said the essence of the reception was to celebrate ‘their own’ as the no. 1 University of Calabar helmsman.
Edet urged members of the Organisation to support the Vice Chancellor to succeed in his new assignment.
He assured that the group will continue to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of Cross River State and Nigeria with seasoned members of the organization from different field of endeavor.
“Professor Zana, you are one of us and let it be on record today that we will always support you and we will not hesitate to tell you too if you are not doing according to what you promised both the lecturers and the students of the University of Calabar.” He said
Chairman of Destiny Group, Dr. Alex Egbona appealed to all members irrespective of political party differences to give the Vice Chancellor the needed support, explaining that “His success is our success, his failure is a collective failure of Destiny Group”.
The Managing Director of Hit Fm, Calabar, Mr. Patrick Ugbe in his remark admonished the Vice Chancellor to take publicity seriously.
According to Ugbe, people within and outside the University need to know what the Vice Chancellor is doing at the right time in other for them not to be misinformed.
He extolled the Vice Chancellor as a goal getter and creative leader who had excelled in his past assignments, assuring that the group will always be by his side.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Zana Akpagu commended the group for hosting him in a well attended reception.
Akpagu assured the group that infrastructural development, student and staff welfare and fair play will be the hall mark of his administration. He reminded the group of the need to be his check periodically whenever the need arises.
Destiny Group is comprised of former executive members (Commissioners and Special Advisers) of the immediate past administration in the Cross River State government under Liyel Imoke which the Vice Chancellor was one of them before returning back to the University of Calabar in 2010.
