The remains of late Stanley Etim, 23 year old shop keeper who was arrested from his work place (Sparkz shop Etta Agbor, Calabar) on February 5, 2015 over allegations of armed robbery but died in police custody has been laid to rest.
The burial which held over the weekend was officiated by Rev. Godwin Okafor of Christ Living Bible Church, Calabar. He was buried at Hawkins cemetery, Calabar South, Cross River State.
The accused policemen have all been dismissed from the Police following the recommendations of the Adjudicating Officer (Divisional Police Officer of Airport Police Station Mr. Asuquo Ebong) in the orderly room trial.
They dismissed policemen had alleged that the victim who died in their custody died of stomach ulcer but an autopsy report carried out on the 22nd of April, 2015 in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) proved them wrong with “extensive blunt head and link (upper and lower) injuries” confirmed as the cause of death occasioned by torture.
The autopsy result which was facilitated by a police medical doctor from the Force Headquarters Abuja was signed by Dr. Irabor Godstime Isi, MBBS2, NWACP witnessed by Omuruyi Kemveth A. of the Department of Histopathology, UCTH.
The accused officers include Inspector Unoh Egwu, Sergeant Peter Njoku, Corporal Bassey Okim and late Inspector Uche Aligu who died last year after allegations that he went to do charms and on returning he had an accident around Akamkpa and died.
But CrossRiverWatch gathered that late Stanley was sharing a girlfriend with one of the dismissed policemen which cost him untimely death.
CrossRiverWatch was also reliably informed by the lawyer to the deceased family, James Ibor, Esq. that they accused are currently in detention and are awaiting prosecution by the State.
